Q1

Why Class IV Laser Therapy?

Compared to cold laser and other low level therapy lasers, patients respond to Class IV laser treatments with fantastic results. The stimulating healing effects of the laser are felt almost immediately and results are cumulative. Because the Class IV laser delivers more power and greater depth of penetration, each treatment session is shorter (only 1-2 minutes) and fewer treatments are required, overall, when compared to lower-powered therapy lasers.

Class IV laser therapy is most successful in treating chronic and deeper-seated soft tissue problems and also successfully enables tissue regeneration while helping your body to fight infection.

Effective deep tissue laser therapy treatment is a direct function of power of the laser light and dose delivered. There are differences across units that are available on the market, in the wavelength, power density, pulse modulation and esthetics of the system. These parameters affect penetration depth, dose distribution, treatment time and the estimated biological effect. Our Class IV laser therapy is the most effective laser therapy offered.

When combined with osteopathy or traditional chinese medicine, the benefits of Class IV laser therapy can result in more effective, comfortable and longer lasting results!

Q2

How Does Class IV Laser Therapy Work?

Class IV Laser Therapy works by stimulating two biochemical processes that are fundamental to the healing process. The first process increases the permeability of targeted cell membranes, thereby allowing waste to exit the cell and nutrient and proteins to enter the cell more easily. This will allow the damaged tissues to heal at an accelerated rate.

The second process specifically targets the small "engine" of the cell called the mitochondria. The mitochondria produces energy for the cell in the form of ATP, and once the cell has more ATP to use, the repair of damaged cells happens much faster.

Q3

Does It Hurt? What Does A Treatment Feel Like?
There is little or no sensation during treatment. Occasionally, one feels mild, soothing warmth or tingling. Areas of pain or inflammation may be sensitive briefly before pain reduction.
Is Class IV Laser Therapy Safe?
Yes. Class IV Laser Therapy has been shown to have very few side effects. It is extremely safe and the only thing that you will feel will be a localized warming sensation. However, as all types of therapies have risks, here is a list of potential sife effects:
  • Eye damage if eyewear is not used when treating near the face (we supply proper eyewear)
  • Some antibiotics increase skin photosensitivity; laser therapy should not be used in this situation
  • As laser therapy increases cell metabolism, it should not be directed towards any cancer tumors

Q4

How Often Should A Patient Be Treated?
Acute conditions may be treated daily, particularly if they are accompanied by significant pain. More chronic problems respond better when treatments are received 2 to 3 times a week, tapering to once a week, or once every other week, with improvement.

Q5

How Many Treatments Does It Take?
This depends on the nature of the condition being treated. For some acute conditions, 1 to 6 treatments may be sufficient. Those of a more chronic nature may require 10 to 15 (or more) treatments. Conditions such as severe arthritis may require ongoing periodic care to control pain.

Q6

How Long Before Results Are Felt?
You may feel improvement in your condition (usually pain reduction) after the very first treatment. Sometimes, you will not feel improvement for a number of treatments. This does not mean nothing is happening. Each treatment is cumulative and results are often felt after 3 to 4 sessions.
